The BHL Cup is one of the most historic events in BHLPA history. Gentlemen (and ladies) from all over North America travel to Scottsdale Arizona to compete for something they have dreamed of their entire lives… a Cup. Unfortunately, this Cup is not Lord Stanley, but if you’re like me, you pretend it is.
The BHL Cup is an adult hockey tourney at the very awesome Ice Den in Scottsdale, Arizona, which is the practice facility for the Arizona Coyotes. The tourney takes place the first weekend of February every year, which is the same weekend as the PGA’s Waste Management Tour, as well as the Super Bowl. It’s probably the bro-iest, bro-weekend imaginable. So, if you’re a hockey guy looking for your next guy’s trip, this is it!
I know what you’re wondering — what ever happened to all the on-ice footage from 2018?!? I think it’s time to tell you the truth about the 2018 BHL Cup. I had an absolute blast…OFF the ice. However, the hockey part was not so good. I did what any respectable adult would do and hid all that footage from my cameraman (I had no choice!) With the NHL enforcing a new Emergency Goalie Rule, I thought I’d have at least 17 NHL teams asking me to be their emergency goalie (that never happened) and that this footage would be my kryptonite! I guess winning 7 BHL Championship tee-shirts means nothing to NHL scouts.
Like I said, we still had a blast that weekend, and my cameraman and I still made this sick “Cribs” style EPISODE.
The picture above really sums up what Pavel Barber and I went through that weekend. Sure, we had teammates, but most of them were just there to have fun. Believe it or not, not all of them have been dreaming of this weekend their entire lives.
OKAY OKAY… what really happened in the 2018 BHL Cup Adult Hockey Tournament? Find out in the episode below…
I feel like a weight has been lifted! Now you guys know the truth — I had an 8.23 GAA, only won ONE game, and got absolutely mangled by the dynasty known as Dixon Cider (I was told they’re an organic brewery based in North Vancouver). Most importantly you know that IT wasn’t my fault. Okay scouts! Going 1-2 with an 8.23 GAA and an IDWTA (I don’t wanna talk about it) SV% is (sometimes) pretty good in the BHL Cup!
Well, I sure hope you enjoyed Part 1 (Episode 44) and please stay tuned for Part 2 of The 2019 BHL Cup (Episode 45). Last but certainly not least, I’d like to thank Allegiant for being such an awesome travel partner! They took great care of us, and we look forward to flying Allegiant again on our next journey.
STAY TUNED FOR PART 2! Featuring on and off-ice highlights from the 2019 BHL Cup!
